Most college parties are centered on dancing and loud music. This leaves few spaces for actual conversations and connection. Ann and Katie are working to fix that. With their venture, Anna and Katie hope to reinvent the traditional structure of a college party by creating murder mystery party packs. These packs would include plans and supplies to throw a murder mystery party perfect for any college student. 

Using their combined majors of Communications, English, and Theatre, Katie and Anna are prepared to be creative and flexible when pursuing their venture.

People don’t all come in the same size and Spencer is working to transform one of the most common items of clothing to be completely size inclusive: t-shirts. Working to create a body positive t-shirt that fits everyone, Spencer is using his Try It funds to hire a designer to help bring his vision to life. 

Spencer also hopes to create his own website and use these funds to help everyone feel at home in their own body. 

Belle is cooking up some fun ideas with her own bread/sweet roll tricycle cart. As a baker, Belle has baked for her community, making her own sourdough and yeast-baked goods. Belle wants to create well-crafted baked goods and a place for the community to connect. 

This venture would be “college friendly” and would serve as a segway to, one day, a large baking business. 

Spencer Hawkins represents the Competitive Coding group at Davidson who wants to host the event Hack@Davidson. With the Try It funds, students will be able to compete in small groups to challenge their technical skills, competing for different prize categories. 

This event will be a stepping stone for students. Even if students have little to no experience in tech, they can experiment and implement learned skills at Hack@Davidson.

Aiming to help provide financial information to boutique finance firms, Cam is focusing on building a financial database and investment model. Using machine and deep learning models, Cam wants to solve a niche problem in the finance industry. 

Working throughout the whole semester, Cam is taking an independent study to advance his venture and prototype this idea. 

Having dealt directly with the effects of the stigma surrounding mental health, Shea is working to eliminate that stigma. With her venture, Shea will create apparel promoting de-stigmatizing mental health, using her skills in design, drawing, and clothing designs. 

She hopes to donate 50% of the profits to mental health organizations and work with UTees to produce her designs. She wants to use the Try It grants to bring awareness to a problem close to her heart. 

The Entrepreneurship Club is aiming to host their own pitch competition with funds from the Try It Fund. Hoping to host a pitch competition to help solve student problems, the Entrepreneurship Club wants to promote student learning about entrepreneurship and help students learn how to hone their gifts to improve the world. 

Involving members of the club and other students, the competition will distribute the Try It funds among winners, to help students solve their problems.

Sabria’s business, the Kundalini Crystal shop, sells copper wire-wrapped crystal jewelry, to promote “positivity and well-being by providing well-made and crafted with good intentions.” Along with supplies, Sabria will use her Try It funds to assess trends in sales, explore areas for improvements, and improve her business’ website.
