Hack@Davidson Student-led Hackathon Fuels Innovation at the Hurt Hub

We’re excited to share highlights from this weekend, February 2-4, 2024, at the Hurt Hub, where over 80 participants gathered for a Hackathon organized by Davidson student organization, Hack@Davidson

Collaboration abounded as teams worked together to create and develop software and hardware projects in under 42 hours. The atmosphere oozed creativity, determination, and caffeine as participants took on the challenge of creating a fully functioning project or concept by the end of the weekend. In addition to independent team-time, participants attended a session on what it’s like to be a software engineer at Precisely (one of the Hackathon sponsor companies) as well as workshops on topics including REST API, blockchains and smart contracts, Git, Generative AI, and Linux.

By the close of the weekend, 22 impressive projects were submitted, spanning diverse topics such as personalized meal recommendations, health appointment scheduling,  and transcription services. You can explore the full list of projects and winners on the Hack@Davidson Devpost page.

In addition to the hard work of Hack@Davidson, the event was made possible through generous support from partners and sponsors, including Davidson alumni, Hurt Hub partners LaunchCLT, and a new partnership with Major League Hacking. Over $4500 in prizes were awarded, recognizing outstanding achievements in various categories such as Best AI Project, Best Accessibility Tool, and Best No-code Hack. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of sponsors; you can view the complete list here and below.

A hearty congratulations to Hack@Davidson for orchestrating an event that not only showcased the incredible skills of the participants but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration. It’s events like these that contribute to the vibrant and innovative spirit of our community.

Once again, congratulations to all the participants, winners, and organizers for making the Hackathon at Hurt Hub a resounding success for the second year in a row!
