The Hurt Hub volunteer network purpose

Mentors play a vital role in supporting student entrepreneurs across every stage of their journey. Depending on the program, mentorship can look different, but the goal is always the same: connecting students with experienced guidance at the moment it matters most.

Some mentorship commitments are longer term, lasting up to three months as teams work through a funding cycle or pitch preparation. Others are one-time engagements, like speed mentoring sessions or a single weekend event, designed for mentors who want to make an impact in a shorter, high-energy format.

We regularly look for guest speakers who can share their own entrepreneurship journey: the wins, the pivots, and the lessons learned. Hearing a real founder’s story helps learners in our cohorts see what entrepreneurship looks like beyond the case studies.

We also seek volunteer facilitators and instructors with deep expertise in a specific skill entrepreneurs need, like go-to-market strategy, fundraising, financial modeling, or sales. Guest instructors and facilitators are carefully selected based on their background and the needs of our programs.

A few times throughout the year, we call on volunteers to help make our events run smoothly. Day-of event support roles are hands-on and practical, think registration check-in, wayfinding, setup and breakdown, or backup photography. No deep entrepreneurship background is needed here, just reliability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to jump in wherever the team needs an extra set of hands.

We periodically convene volunteer committees to support specific programs and initiatives across the Hurt Hub. Some committees do important review work behind the scenes, like evaluating grant applications and helping ensure funding reaches the entrepreneurs who need it most. Others roll up their sleeves on the planning side, helping shape and execute events like our women’s entrepreneurship conference.

Committee roles vary in time commitment depending on the initiative, but they’re a meaningful way to contribute your expertise, perspective, and networks to something bigger than a single event or session. Members are selected based on their background and the needs of the specific committee.
