Student Space

Your space to work,
gather and build

From quiet rooms built for group project work to open tables made for collaboration, the Hurt Hub has a spot for however you like to get things done. Explore what’s available below, then settle in.

  • Social Commons

Just inside our main entrance, Social Commons is where students, faculty, coworkers, and entrepreneurs gather to connect and recharge.

Make an espresso with our machine, grab a Spindrift from the case, find a comfortable seat, and settle in alongside people building all kinds of ideas. Coffee, espresso drinks, and Spindrifts are available for purchase, at the register on the coffee bar counter. It’s a relaxed, welcoming spot for the community to come together and conversations to spark.

  • The Van Deman Innovation Lab

Made possible by a $1 million gift from Ed Van Deman ’69, CEO of Forest Systems Inc., and his wife Dr. Nancie Fimbel, the Van Deman Innovation Lab gives students room to think big. Explore the open collaboration space, or head to one of four dedicated study rooms when you need to focus.

  • Student study rooms

Reserve one of four study rooms in the back of the Innovation Lab using the iPad outside each door. Rooms can be used in two-hour blocks, perfect for group work, interviews, or heads-down time whenever you need it.

Guidelines for sharing our space

  • Students are welcome to work throughout the building in these key spots: Social Commons, the Van Deman Innovation Lab, Student Rooms, and Phone Rooms (Phone Rooms open to students after 5 PM). These areas are marked with clear signage and a color-coded map, available.

The Hurt Hub is also a coworking space, home to local entrepreneurs and professionals who rent desks and offices throughout the building. Their membership revenue helps fund the programming, spaces, and resources students use every day, so the coworkers you see around the building are part of what makes all of this possible.

A few areas, including dedicated coworking desks near Room 303 and our conference rooms, are reserved for coworkers. We ask these areas not be occupied by students, Hurt Hub staff monitor these areas and will ensure the space remains open for coworkers to use.

We’re all sharing this space, so we ask that you treat it with care: pick up after yourself, return any furniture you move, and be mindful of the people working around you.
