About the Fund

The Community Try It Fund provides up to $1,000 of financial support to help cover initial business expenses such as registration fees, licenses, permits, and other startup essentials. For graduates of the Hurt Hub’s entrepreneurship programs, you’ve developed the foundation, now let us help you build upon it.

We fund for-profit ventures, so your project must intend to make money by selling a product, idea, or service. We realize you are going to make mistakes when attempting something you’ve never done before. Failure is part of the creative process, and we want you to take risks, try new ideas, learn how to quickly recognize what doesn’t work and pivot onto something that does.

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to entrepreneurs who:

  • Have completed either the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program or Building a Lean Startup course at the Hurt Hub
  • Are launching a new for-profit business or have established one in 2025
  • Will register (or have registered) their business in North Carolina

Important Notes

  • The fund is exclusively for community members
  • Davidson College current students are not eligible for this opportunity
  • Businesses must be for-profit entities
  • Upon accepting the award, you must consent to make substantial progress towards your goal within 8 weeks and provide a reflection on the process
  • This fund is made possible through a generous Truist Charitable Fund grant

Selection Process

A limited number of awards are available through the Community Try It Fund. After we receive your application, our team will schedule a meeting with you to learn more about your business venture and funding needs.
