SUMMARY:Davidson College — Group Office Hours with Andrew Ashur '19
DESCRIPTION:Launching a Startup at Davidson? You Don’t Have to Do It Alone. Starting a business is tough—especially as a student. It can feel isolating\, like you’re figuring everything out on your own. But you don’t have to. The Davidson Student Founder Office Hours are here to change that. This is a space where student entrepreneurs connect\, share wins and challenges\, and hold each other accountable. Whether you’re actively building a startup or just curious about entrepreneurship\, this is your place to learn\, grow\, and build alongside like-minded students. What’s the Goal? We’re creating a community of Davidson founders who help each other succeed. Here’s what you’ll get: ✅ Refine your startup idea by practicing your one-liner and pitch. ✅ Accountability check-ins to track progress and stay motivated. ✅ Support from fellow founders—learn from their experiences and share yours. ✅ Real talk about the startup journey—the wins\, the struggles\, and everything in between. How It Works (Pilot Session) 📍 Location: The Hurt Hub\, Davidson College 📆 Date: Monday March 31\, 2025 🕡 Time: 6:30-8 PM The Flow of the Evening 🍕 6:30-7:00 PM – Social Time & Pizza This is a casual time to meet other founders\, grab some pizza\, and talk about what you’re working on. No structure—just good conversations with like-minded students. 🗣️ 7:00-8:00 PM – Group Office Hours This is where we get structured. The session will follow a format inspired by Y Combinator’s group office hours\, giving everyone a chance to pitch\, check in\, and get feedback. Session Format (1 Hour) Welcome & Pitch Practice (10 min) Each student gives a 30-second pitch of their startup (or idea). Helps with refining messaging & public speaking. Founder Check-Ins (30-40 min) Answer 3 simple but powerful questions: What did you accomplish in the last two weeks? What are you aiming for in the next two weeks? What’s your biggest challenge right now? Moderators keep the flow moving. Open Discussion & Peer Feedback (10-20 min) Need help? Ask for advice\, connections\, or feedback. Get insights from other student founders. Who Should Join? 💡 Students currently working on a startup → This is for you. 👀 Aspiring entrepreneurs → Curious? Sit in and learn. About the Moderator – Andrew Ashur 👋 I’m Andrew Ashur\, and I’ll be leading the discussion. I graduated from Davidson in 2019 while playing D1 baseball\, majoring in economics and Spanish\, and working three jobs. I know firsthand how hard it is to balance school\, work\, and launching something of your own. Today\, I’m the founder of Lucid Bots\, a fast-growing robotics company building autonomous robots for dangerous and demanding jobs. I’m also the founder of Persto\, a SaaS platform for mentoring communities\, and serve as the Innovator in Residence at The Hurt Hub. I’ve raised over $18M in venture capital\, built and scaled teams\, and navigated the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. My goal is to make sure every student who walks into this room gets real\, tangible value—whether that’s refining your pitch\, getting actionable feedback\, or feeling more connected to the Davidson startup community. I’ll help guide the conversation\, but this is a collaborative space—you’ll get the most out of it by engaging\, sharing\, and supporting your fellow founders. Why This Matters 🚀 You’ll build confidence through real-world pitch practice. 🤝 You’ll stay accountable with biweekly check-ins. 📈 You’ll join a network of driven student founders. 🔥 You’ll get plugged into the Davidson startup ecosystem. Entrepreneurship is easier (and more fun) when you’re part of a community. Join us for the first session and start building with fellow Davidson founders. 📩 Questions? Feel free to reach out to me at aashur@lucidbots.com. See you there.

SUMMARY:Open Idea Jam
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hurt Hub every first Thursday of the month from 11am to 12pm in the den area of the Van Deman Innovation Lab for a casual Open Idea Jam! What is an Open Idea Jam? It’s an informal gathering where creativity flows and we collectively build and riff on each other’s ideas. Jams are designed for collaboration\, brainstorming\, and the free exchange of ideas in a supportive environment. How it works: Bring your own idea to share and discuss Act as a sounding board for others’ ideas If no one brings an idea\, we’ll provide thought-provoking prompts Who can attend? Everyone! Whether you’re an established innovator\, a curious mind\, or someone looking to flex your creative muscles\, you’re welcome to join. Examples of Ideas you might bring: So I have this idea for a podcast… I think urban vertical gardening could be a business I would enjoy…. I think that empty building would be great for… I think something should be done about…. What if our clothing was embedded with haptic feedback?…   This is a great opportunity to: Get feedback on your budding ideas Help others refine their concepts and practice asking thoughtful questions Practice creative problem-solving For questions email Amy Gascon at amgascon@davidson.edu.

SUMMARY:Innovation Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Hurt Hub’s monthly Innovation Community of Practice. In honor of earth month\, this month’s topic will be on Circular Economies. What if waste was just a design flaw? The traditional economy runs on a simple but costly loop: take raw materials\, make something\, and dispose of it when we’re done. A circular economy challenges that assumption. What does it look like to keep resources\, products\, and materials in use for as long as possible\, and to design systems where nothing really becomes waste. It’s an idea gaining traction across industries\, from manufacturing and fashion to food systems and urban planning. But what does it actually mean in practice? Where are the real opportunities and the real obstacles? And how does it connect to the work we do every day? We’re not bringing in a dedicated expert to tell us the answers. Instead\, we open these questions to the group to hear how you think about it or what you have experienced. Whether you’re deeply familiar with the concept or hearing it for the first time\, your perspective is what this conversation needs. FAQ What is a Community of Practice? A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common interest\, profession\, or passion and come together to interact\, learn\, and collaborate. What do we mean by Innovation? We like to explore innovation broadly. We’re curious about new ideas\, methods\, or services that bring positive change or improvement. We want to explore creative approaches to problem-solving\, processes\, idea generation\, or technology.   Who is this group for? Innovation is for everyone regardless of industry or professional status. What will we do? These are casual conversations that focus on a different topic month to month.   For questions or to RSVP please email Amy Quilala Gascon amgascon@davidson.edu The Hurt Hub welcomes requests for reasonable accommodations related to disability and will strive to make this program accessible to participants. Please contact Amy Quilala at amgascon@davidson.edu to make such a request.

DESCRIPTION:Think Faster. Speak Bolder. Show Up Ready. What if the best way to sharpen your thinking wasn’t a workshop or framework\, but a game? Battledecks: An Improv Experience is a high-energy event that teaches you how to think faster\, communicate clearer\, and show up with more confidence. Here’s How the Night Works: The Lesson: Hurt Hub Knowledge Hub speaker and improv comedian\, Amy Quilala\, kicks things off with 4 improv-rooted lessons for anyone who thinks\, communicates\, or works with other humans. Think of it as everything you need to go into Battledecks battle-ready. Full Group Game: Before the battle begins\, the whole room gets in on a low-stakes improv game that warms up your brain\, loosens the room\, and gets everyone into full hype-person mode. Battledecks: This is where we hand the mic over to you. Battledecks is a popular improv format where volunteers are given a random slide deck they’ve never seen before and present it live\, on the spot to a room of people rooting for you. Will we be fact checking? Absolutely not. Could it go sideways? That’s kind of the point. Volunteers put their name in the hat. We’ll draw for order. Fate takes it from there. Come solo\, bring a crew\, or make it your team’s next professional development win. Beer and wine available throughout the event for guests 21+.
