SUMMARY:Solopreneur Circle Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wished you had a trusted circle of other independent entrepreneurs who truly get your journey? People who understand both the thrill and the weight of building something meaningful on your own? Let’s make that solo journey a little less solo. We’re creating something new at the Hurt Hub – a monthly breakfast gathering called The Solopreneur Circle\, and we are looking for individuals who want a seat at the table. This isn’t just another networking event. It’s an intimate community where we can drop the polished pitch and have real conversations about what it takes to build and grow our individual ventures. The first Thursday of each month\, you’ll join other passionate entrepreneurs like yourself in a space where you can: Learn from others who’ve faced (and overcome) the exact challenges you’re tackling right now Share your own expertise and experiences\, because your journey has valuable lessons for others Set goals and celebrate your wins with people who understand just how much they mean Work through obstacles and find accountability with fellow entrepreneurs who offer fresh perspectives The Hurt Hub\, along with Michelle Mckown-Campbell\, founder of Activate the Awesome\, will help facilitate these conversations to get the ball rolling\, but the real magic will happen in the authentic connections and conversations between members. Whether you’re wrestling with scaling challenges\, seeking feedback on new ideas\, or simply want to be around others who understand the entrepreneurial mindset – this is your space. Informational Gathering: March 6th 8:45am-10am: Help us co-create a powerful support system for solo entrepreneurs! Join us for an informal breakfast conversation to learn more about the vision and help shape what this circle could mean for you and fellow solopreneurs. Networking 8:45am-9:00am\, program kick off at 9. Official Group Kickoff: April 3rd 8:45am-10am

SUMMARY:Open Idea Jam
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hurt Hub every first Thursday of the month from 11am to 12pm in the den area of the Van Deman Innovation Lab for a casual Open Idea Jam! What is an Open Idea Jam? It’s an informal gathering where creativity flows and we collectively build and riff on each other’s ideas. Jams are designed for collaboration\, brainstorming\, and the free exchange of ideas in a supportive environment. How it works: Bring your own idea to share and discuss Act as a sounding board for others’ ideas If no one brings an idea\, we’ll provide thought-provoking prompts Who can attend? Everyone! Whether you’re an established innovator\, a curious mind\, or someone looking to flex your creative muscles\, you’re welcome to join. Examples of Ideas you might bring: So I have this idea for a podcast… I think urban vertical gardening could be a business I would enjoy…. I think that empty building would be great for… I think something should be done about…. What if our clothing was embedded with haptic feedback?…   This is a great opportunity to: Get feedback on your budding ideas Help others refine their concepts and practice asking thoughtful questions Practice creative problem-solving For questions email Amy Gascon at amgascon@davidson.edu.

SUMMARY:Solopreneur Circle + The Lab
DESCRIPTION:The Solopreneur Circle is a monthly gathering designed to unite independent entrepreneurs in our community for collaboration\, growth\, and mutual support. Each month from 9am-10am\, members come together at the Hurt Hub for community building and focused discussions on common challenges faced by solo business owners. The program includes facilitator-led discussions\, peer learning opportunities\, and dedicated time for members to share their victories and obstacles in a supportive environment. This intimate community serves as both a professional resource hub and a vital support system\, ensuring that while members may run their businesses independently\, they don’t have to face their entrepreneurial journey alone.   After the Solopreneur Circle ends we open “The Lab” for an optional hour from 10-11am. During The Lab\, two individuals bring their works in progress to the room. A training they’re testing. A new offer they’re not sure about. A demo that needs real people to react to it. It doesn’t have to be polished. As an audience member\, you might be asked what you think. You might end up in someone’s speaker reel. Come open-minded\, curious\, and supportive. Ground Rules for The Lab: Presenters must sign up with Amy in advance and have attended The Solopreneur at least once previously. No hard sales-this is about practice and feedback. The Lab is a growing environment\, respect these are works in progress Honor what kind of feedback is requested by The Presenter. Keep it specific\, constructive\, and kind. Lead with curiosity before opinion Filming may occur.  By attending\, you consent to being captured on camera Questions? Please email amgascon@davidson.edu

SUMMARY:Think Like an Entrepreneur: Exploring the Entrepreneurial Mindset
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hurt Hub for a 4-part book club-style discussion on the entrepreneurial mindset. Wednesdays\, 6:30–8:00pm | August 26–September 16 What does it take to think like an entrepreneur? This four-week series is part book club\, part guided conversation. Facilitated by Cherese Spand\, these sessions are built for anyone curious about entrepreneurship\, whether you’re weighing a business idea or just want to build a more resilient\, opportunity-seeking mindset. Each week\, we’ll dig into Who Owns the Ice House? 8 Life Lessons from an Unlikely Entrepreneur\, using its lessons as a jumping-off point for discussion. Along the way\, local entrepreneurs will join us as guest speakers to share what lessons and mindsets they’ve used in their own ventures. On our final night\, we’ll shift from mindset to mechanics: a representative from Mecklenburg Economic Development will walk us through the fundamentals of formally starting a business. A complimentary copy of Who Owns the Ice House? and dinner will be provided. About the Instructor: Cherese L. Spand has been an entrepreneurship mindset educator with the Hurt Hub since 2024. She draws on her 20+ years of experience as a business owner to help guide and inspire community members thinking about entrepreneurship. Cherese is the founder of SHE Wealth – Savvy\, Healthy & Empowered\, where she specializes in helping women and women in business make empowered financial decisions. Cherese is an active member of the Lake Norman community\, having served on multiple local non-profit boards and committees as a strategic leader and advocate. As a follow up to this program\, we recommend following this series with Building a Lean Startup\, beginning September 23\, where you’ll start testing and building out your own business concept!

SUMMARY:Building a Lean Startup - Fall 2026
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to jumpstart your business idea in this 7 session course using the Lean Startup methodology. Building a Lean StartupWednesdays\, Sept 23 – Nov 11 | 6:45–8:15 pm | Room 208 | No class on October 14 The Hurt Hub@Davidson is excited to be offering another round of the Building a Lean Startup course for all interested students\, faculty\, staff\, and members of the general public. This course is an opportunity for individuals or small business teams to learn about the core principles of entrepreneurship and work on developing an idea through the Lean Startup methodology. No previous business experience required! The Lean Startup methodology is an approach to building new businesses rooted in the belief that entrepreneurs must investigate\, experiment\, test\, and iterate as they develop new products and services. Unlike traditional startup approaches\, lean startups move quickly\, iterate often and continuously solicit feedback from their customers. Taught by Rebecca Weeks Watson*\, Building a Lean Startup is a 7-session course covering topics including how to come up with business ideas\, how to get users/customers and grow\, how to execute on sales and marketing\, how to hire\, how to raise money\, which key metrics to measure\, and more. All of these topic areas will rely on a build-measure-learn approach to make sure you find effective solutions quickly and inexpensively. Lean Startup is a mindset and a methodology that is used across industries\, sectors\, and professions to solve problems and understand what your customers need most. We welcome people from all backgrounds and encourage an open and engaged mindset!
