SUMMARY:Small Business Lunch & Learn: Find Where the Money Leaks
DESCRIPTION:Find Where the Money Leaks: What Happens When AI Meets a 35-Year-Old Business\n\n\nJoin us at The Hurt Hub for September’s Small Business Lunch & Learn. \nAI’s real value inside a business isn’t replacing people\, it’s finding the money that’s already on the table. Jason Ridenhour makes the case with one real company: a 35-year-old distributor/installer doing $19M a year whose entire operation still runs on one Word document. Using that company as a case study\, Jason maps the four places money was quietly leaking out of the business\, and shows what AI actually does about each one\, with real artifacts on screen. You will leave with four concrete moves and a worksheet to find the same leaks in your own business. \nLunch is provided. \nAbout the Presenter: Jason Ridenhour is the founder of ProBusinessOps\, and a Davidson native. He helps small businesses across the Lake Norman area put AI agents to work\, doing the mundane and repetitive tasks found in everyday operations that actually run a company \nThe Hurt Hub welcomes requests for reasonable accommodations related to disability and will strive to make this program accessible to participants. Please contact our team at the Hurt Hub at hurthub@davidson.edu to make such a request.

All of these topic areas will rely on a build-measure-learn approach to make sure you find effective solutions quickly and inexpensively. \nLean Startup is a mindset and a methodology that is used across industries\, sectors\, and professions to solve problems and understand what your customers need most. We welcome people from all backgrounds and encourage an open and engaged mindset! \nCost: \nThanks to the Hurt Hub’s partnerships and with the support of Amplify Davidson\, this course is free to particpants. \nCourse Schedule: \nWednesday Evenings\, September 23 – November 11 | 7 Weeks\, 6:45–8:15 pm. After starting her career in finance and then consulting for Match.com\, she decided to pursue her interest in the startup world. She was on the founding team and led Business Development for two different marketing technology companies\, one of which was acquired by Meredith Corporation. She has spoken at 50 conferences nationwide and enjoys lecturing at the University of Virginia’s undergrad business school. Most recently Rebecca founded a groundbreaking interview series called The Reveal that uncovers surprising personal stories of world-class leaders. \nThe Hurt Hub welcomes requests for reasonable accommodations related to disability and will strive to make this program accessible to participants. Scholarships available!\n\n\nThe Davidson College Entrepreneurship Club is excited to host our second annual Techstars Startup Weekend in collaboration with The Hurt Hub at Davidson College. The weekend is open to all Davidson students\, entrepreneurs\, creators\, builders\, and interested parties from the general public. The startup weekend is a great opportunity to connect with passionate like-minded people eager to develop and build something different or new. \nFacilitated by the inspirational Sibi Murugesan\, the startup weekend is a multi-day event where participants will experience the startup life\, connect with founders and investors\, and learn from industry experts\, mentors\, and judges. \nFormat: Participants grouped into teams. Teams will look to develop an idea (selected by participants) into a viable product and/or solution. Teams will then pitch their product/solution to judges. \nIndustry Focus: This year we will focus on select industries – but stay tuned for the specifcs! \nCost: $10 per person. Scholarships available. Please email Zainab Sawani at zasawani@davidson.edu to request a scholarship. In your email\, please answer one of the two following questions 1) How do you envision the Techstars weekend at Davidson contributing to your personal or professional growth?\, or 2) What do you hope to gain from the Techstars Weekend at Davidson? \nSchedule (more details to follow): \nFriday\, October 2– 17:30 – 22:00 \nSaturday\, October 3 — 09:00 – 21:00 \nSunday\, October 4 — 09:00 – 19:30 \nFAQ: \nQ: Is this event for me? \nA: Yes! If you are interested in learning about startups\, meeting founders\, building something new\, and solving interesting challenges…Techstars weekend is for you! We believe that great ideas can come from anywhere. \nThe event is intended to be a collaborative and inclusive forum for sharing\, learning\, building\, and having fun. We expect each member of the startup community to be inclusive of all people and their ideas and we welcome all\, regardless of experience\, industry\, or background. \nQ: Who is allowed to attend? \nA: This is an 18+ up event; we cannot accommodate minors this weekend. Beyond that we welcome people from all different backgrounds; you don’t need to be enrolled in college to attend. \nQ: Do I need a team? \nA: Everyone who attends the event as a participant is expected to come to the event without a team and then join and participate with a team at the event. This is important to preserve the Techstars Startup Weekend educational experience. The ideal team consists of members from diverse backgrounds and experiences. \nQ: Do I have to participate all three days? \nA: Yes\, participants are asked to attend all scheduled sessions as the weekend relies on team collaboration and engagement. Apart from the organizing team\, mentors\, speakers\, event volunteers and judges\, everyone who participates in the event is expected to participate in all three days. This is important not only to preserve your own learning experience\, but also to minimize distractions or disruptions for the team you choose to join. If you have specific conflicts\, please feel free to reach out to Omer Alpa (omalpa@davidson.edu) or Zainab Sawani (zasawani@davidson.edu) to discuss. \nQ: I have an idea to tackle during the weekend. How do I pitch it? \nA: Our TechStars Facilitator for the weekend\, Sibi Murugesan\, will take us through a fun process on Friday night explaining how to pitch ideas. You don’t need to pitch an idea\, but we highly encourage you to. You can pitch an idea you’ve been thinking about for years\, or something you think of at the last minute during the event. Please don’t pitch an idea that you’ve already been developing or have been working on outside of Startup Weekend. The point of the event is to learn how to go from ideation to product. \nThese initial pitches are short (60 seconds) with just you and the mic. Generally\, they should cover: \n\nState who you are and what your background is\nMention what problem you’re trying to solve\nExplain the product idea and how it solves the problem\nWhat skill sets you need on the team like a developer\, marketer\, designer\, etc.\n\nQ: What lodging is available? \nA: Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation and accommodation. There are two nearby lodging options. The Davidson Village Inn is a small hotel in downtown Davidson about a 2 minute walk from the Hurt Hub (https://davidsoninn.com/). The Homewood Suites by Hilton is a 3-4 minute drive to the Hurt Hub (https://www.guestreservations.com/Homewood-Suites-By-Hilton-Davidson/booking?A=1) \n \nPlease note – participants are not allowed to sleep over in the building\, and must elave each night by 11:00pm. \nQ: Do I need to bring my own food? \nA: All meals will be provided during the weekend. Bring a waterbottle. If you have any specific dietary restrictions\, please put them down on the registration form. \nQ: Does Techstars have a website? \nA: Yes! Check out their website to learn more about what you can expect at the Davidson event. https://www.techstars.com/communities/startup-weekend \n \nSponsors and Supporters \nThis weekend was made possible from the generous support of multiple Sponsors and Suporters\, including: The Hurt Hub at Davidson College\, and the Davidson Entrepreneurship Club.
