Presentations for Impact (4 Part Series)

May 1 @ 7:00 pm - May 11 @ 9:00 pm

How to turn a robotic slide deck reading into the performance of a lifetime!

Are you super pumped to watch a whole day of your co-workers’ PowerPoints?

If your answer is something like, “Are you kidding me?” or “Uhhhhhhhh no,” you’ve likely experienced more dreary and incomprehensible slide decks than you care to admit. It’s a real shame. Despite the fact that technology allows us to assemble visually stunning, richly informative slides, our workplaces don’t invest enough in training you how to deliver those slides with authenticity, personality, and impact.

In this 4-session course from theatre artist and Davidson College professor Steve Kaliski, you’ll learn how to become a stronger performer in presentation scenarios, particularly ones that involve slide decks. The first day, you’ll share a real or imaginary 5-minute work presentation, and you’ll receive feedback from your peers. Then, over the course of the next few sessions, you’ll participate in a series of acting and public speaking exercises that will help you become the star of the show, saving your glorious deck for the role of sidekick. You’ll finish off the course by delivering your original presentation again, perhaps with a standing ovation to follow!

The course will cover presenting in both in-person and remote scenarios. Folks from any career stage are welcome to enroll.

When: The class will meet 4 times over the course of two weeks on Mondays and Thursdays. The dates are May 1, 4, 8 and 11. All sessions are 7:00pm-9:00pm.

Where: Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Room 303
