Intellectual Property Workshop Series – Session 1: Patents

February 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Learn patent basics: what’s patentable, the patent process, and timing considerations. First in a 3-part IP series. Open to all!

Join us for the first session of our Intellectual Property Workshop Series!

Whether you’re a researcher, entrepreneur, student, or creator, understanding intellectual property is essential for protecting your innovations and ideas. This three-part workshop series, facilitated by Dr. Nicole Snyder, Professor of Chemistry at Davidson College and Cornelson Faculty Innovator in Residence at the Hurt Hub@Davidson and will demystify the world of IP and give you practical knowledge you can apply immediately.

Workshop #1: Patents

Discover the fundamentals of patent protection and how patents support innovation in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship. You’ll learn what types of inventions are patentable and how the patent process works from disclosure to filing.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • The different types of patents (utility, design, and plant patents)
  • Patentability requirements: novelty, non-obviousness, and utility
  • The patent lifecycle: invention disclosure, filing, prosecution, and maintenance
  • Timing considerations: patents vs. publishing and public disclosure

Event Details:

  • When: Thursday, February 19, 7-8 PM
  • Where: Room 208, Hurt Hub@Davidson
  • Who: Open to ALL—no prior knowledge required!

Coming Soon in This Series:
