Verna Case
I began my interest in wildlife photography in graduate school at The Pennsylvania State University where I obtained my PhD in zoology, specializing in animal behavior. I joined Davidson's biology department in 1974 after completing my doctorate degree. It wasn’t until 1995 that I had my first opportunity to travel to Africa. I was asked to review the School for Field Studies program in Kenya. To my delight, my three weeks in Kenya were spent on safari with the faculty and students in the program and I fell in love with photographing African wildlife. I have traveled and taken pictures in many areas of the world, but my favorite subjects are still the animals of Africa. Safaris in Botswana and South Africa have provided many opportunities for me to observe and photograph animals in their natural habitat. There is nothing more thrilling than meeting the gaze of a wild animal through a camera lens and to feel part of their world at least for a moment.

Brian Eiler
I have been at Davidson for 5 years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. I first tried this type of art during my post-doc in Flagstaff, AZ as a form of art therapy. I really like fluid art because it self-organizes into patterns that you can influence, but not control directly. That vibed with my science, which uses dynamical systems modeling to understand how people interact with one another. Using acrylic paints, colors are layered and then poured onto the canvas, which can be moved to influence the paint. Silicone added to the paint creates the cells.

Anna Stovall
In Missouri, my grandmother taught me to crochet when I was twelve, but I didn't pick up a hook regularly until I was encouraged to do so by my friends here at the college. Davidson is home to quite the community of textile artists! I've been the delighted recipient of their guidance for the last twelve years.
